This kit, of a charming steam powered vessel is designed to give the modeler the best advantages in building and finishing a terrific model. All of the original patterns were made in our shop with reference to the details of several prototypes and much research in books, museums, and conversations with master modelers. We use the finest molds and artist’s resins to bring you the highest quality hand poured castings possible .The highly detailed resin pilot house is one molded assembly with wall planking, doors, and vertical window frames molded in. The resin deck house is four detailed walls and easy assembly. The waterline hull incorporates the full bulwark, decking, and top rail. The hand poured resin lifeboat is extremely thin and looks to scale. The etched brass ladders and railings are our own design and made exclusively for our kits. The quality pewter castings add the required detail. This kit includes excellent instructions, drawings, and glossary of terms.

These vessels would have been designed, built, owned, and operated by local families, captains, railroads, or investors, etc. The steamer that we present through this kit is similar to the one we are familiar with called the Sabino or originally called the Tourist. The Sabino is up and running in Mystic the Maritime Museum. This model is not a model of the Sabino, but similar, and would have been used for very similar purposes. It will carry a lot of passengers, mail, and heavy cargo and attempt to keep schedules. It will make multiple stops at various islands and mainland harbors to deliver and pick up mail, produce, dry goods, live stock, groceries, etc. etc. This kit, with some minor modifications it could be converted to a double decker which would increase passenger capacity.

Steam, as an agent of power, can be traced back approximately 2000 years to the Egyptian civilization. We tend to think of steam powered ships as those that plowed through rivers, lakes and large bodies of water carrying both freight and passengers to exciting destination. This kit represents a small steam powered vessel working on the east or west coast, lakes, rivers, or oceans carrying on commerce that was vital to the growth of our nation, from the mid 1800s to mid 1900s. There is so much to say about these steam powered vessels that have a distinct parallel with our nation’s history. I will not attempt to be historian and focus on building this kit. However, I strongly recommend that you read up on the subject. Here are a few great books that you might have a hard time putting down.
