H136W-HO 53' Coastal Passenger Steam Ferry Craftsman Kit/laser c $119.95

Laser cut wood superstructure - Resin hull- metal fittings

Actual size of craft: Length 7 1/4Ē Width 2 1/8Ē

This waterline kit of a charming, steam powered vessel is supplied with a solid resin hull with attached bulwarks, laser cut ladders, laser cut wood pilot house, deck house, walls & roofs, quality laser cut wooden windows, and many special quality pewter castings. We use the finest molds, artistís resins, and quality laser cut wood to bring you the highest quality parts possible. This kit is designed to give the modeler the best advantages in building and finishing a terrific model. All of the original patterns were made in our shop with reference to the details of several prototypes and much research in books, and photographs.

Our Craftsman kits are freelance designs that incorporate features from some prototype vessels. No model shipbuilding skills are required for our kits. Kits include all parts necessary for assembly, as shown in the photos unless noted as well as detailed drawings, instruction sheets and finishing instructions.

These vessels would have been designed, built, owned, and operated by local families, captains, railroads, or investors, etc. The steamer that we present through this kit is similar to the one we are familiar with called the Sabino or originally called the Tourist. The Sabino is up and running in Mystic the Maritime Museum. This model is not a model of the Sabino, but similar, and would have been used for very similar purposes. It will carry a lot of passengers, mail, and heavy cargo and attempt to keep schedules. It will make multiple stops at various islands and mainland harbors to deliver and pick up mail, produce, dry goods, livestock, groceries, etc. etc. This kit, with some minor modifications could be converted to a double decker which would increase passenger capacity. Steam, as an agent of power, can be traced back approximately 2000 years to the Egyptian civilization. We tend to think of steam powered ships as those that plowed through rivers, lakes and large bodies of water carrying both freight and passengers to exciting destination. This kit represents a small steam powered vessel working on the east or west coast, lakes, rivers, or oceans carrying on commerce that was vital to the growth of our nation, from the mid 1800ís to mid 1900ís. There is so much to say about these steam powered vessels that have a distinct parallel with our nationís history. I will not attempt to be historian but focus on building this kit. However, I strongly recommend that you read up on the subject. Here are a few great books that you might have a hard time putting down.
